What We Do To Make The Best Hay Possible

Grass hays of similar species are basically the same no matter where the crop is grown.  The secret to high quality Hovatter hay is timing and coordination with local weather conditions.  At Hovatter Farms we are totally mechanized so we can take full advantage of those "windows" of opportunity that are sometimes rare during the Spring months in Northern Virginia.  To get maximum nutritive value, the hay must be cut, dried, bailed and stored in a rapid succession of events as the weather permits.

Packaging and storing of fresh tall grasses in small square bales (40-60 lbs.) for an annual feeding program is the most common practice in the Virginia horse industry. Horse owners can easily transport, store and feed their horses an opitmal diet on an annual basis if the hay is of superior quality.

All in a days work...
Shown below is a good days production of about 2000 square bales.
